Puppet Pals is a great story telling app that makes a video presentation of your "Puppets" sharing a story, giving directions, or sharing information. Backgrounds can be uploaded from your iPad into the Puppet Pal library to be used as backgrounds. You can also save images as characters with the option to trace people out of a picture to be used as a character. This video shows an image I cut of myself and using it as a puppet. Think of it as an electronic flannel board with more options! The Free version has limitations, but is still good. Try it today. Download your copy from the App Store | |

Summer's on its way (anybody counting down?) and this app is the perfect answer to "I'm bored!" DIY.org encourages kids to take learning into their own hands by completing challenges that interest them. With over 100 skills to choose from there is truly something for everyone. Choose from topics like Duct Tape Ninja, Beekeeper, Web Designer, Veterinarian, Prankster, Photographer, Sailor, Painter, Fashion Designer, Detective, and even Summerologist. Once you select your skill, complete three of the challenges offered to earn your patch. Students can share their creations and see what other kids are making. All interaction on the site is closely monitored, so it is a safe environment.
DIY.org is a free app for the iPhone/iPad, but as the name suggests you can get there on your computer as well. We've all endured those 120-slide PowerPoints where the presenter simply reads the text straight from the slide. Haiku Deck is a sleek presentation app designed to help prevent "death by PowerPoint". It encourages students (and teachers) to do the following: simplify their message, use images to amplify emotional impact, and keep formatting clean and consistent. Simply select a theme and add your text. Choose from millions of free Creative Commons (legal to use!) background pictures or add your own images. You can also add public notes to share resources with your viewers and private notes to help you keep track of the things you want to include in your presentation. You have the ability to control privacy settings so people online see as much or as little of your "deck" as you want. Even though this is featured as an iPad app, it is also available online and can be used with Macs and PCs. You do NOT need a user account to use the iPad app, but one is needed to create Haiku Decks with the web app. Tellagami is an app that lets you create a quick animated video called a Gami in just a few easy steps.
What are some ways you would use this in your classroom?
ChatterPix is a free app for the iPad or iPhone that gives you the ability to make your pictures talk. Take a photo or use one that's already in your cameral roll, draw a line where you want the mouth to be, and record your voice. It's that simple! You can also add stickers or effects to your ChatterPix. This can be used in so many ways in the classroom:
There are two versions available in the app store. ChatterPix has social media sharing capabilities built in; ChatterPix Kids does not, so keep that in mind as you decide which works best for you. Sound like something you would like to do, but you don't have access to iPads? Check out blabberize.com on your computer! It's a little more complicated, but it does the same general thing. So, what do you think? How can you use ChatterPix in your classroom?
